HCMC – On the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (November 20), ELSA (English Language Speech Assistant) app has launched a number of new features and promotions to support teachers of English across Vietnam.

ELSA will provide English teachers nationwide with a life-long ELSA Pro account worth US$400 free of charge. ELSA also introduces the new function Teacher Dashboard, which enables teachers to keep track of their students’ performance effectively. Moreover, with the free support of ELSA, English teachers can build their own module on the app, integrate ELSA into their curriculum, and provide students with personalized help.

Founded in 2015 by Stanford MBA/M.Ed graduate Vu Van and Dr. Xavier Anguera, a veteran in speech recognition and AI, ELSA is a mobile app for language learners that helps them improve pronunciation and reduce accents, utilizing in-house speech recognition, automated feedback and deep learning technology. Notably, it was the winner of SxSW’s Global Education Technology competition in 2016.

The inspiration for ELSA came when Vu realized that pronunciation and accent often pose as a hindrance for non-native employees in business.

Speaking English fluently is a big advantage for non-native speakers. “You can go into a job interview and just because you speak better English they automatically give you a better job,” Van said in a statement.

ELSA currently allows 1.5 billion English language learners across the globe to increase their speaking fluency. The app listens to the way language learners pronounce words, sentences or conversations to pinpoint exact errors and provide real-time, accurate feedback on their pronunciation mistakes with specific suggestions on how to improve.
